The LaserLink II series provides very reliable building-to-building LAN connections using Free Space Optics as transmission media. The system offers highest level of flexibility, scalability and availability by supporting copper and fibre LAN-connections, upgradeable speeds up to Gigabit Ethernet and optional RF-redundancy.
Speeds
Utilizing four laser beams on each side of link, for a total of eight active beams, these bridges transmit and receive data simultaneously for full duplex connectivity. Each side of the link can be ordered in a 250 Mbps, 500 Mbps, or 1,000 Mbps configuration—or can be upgraded later via software keys.
Distances
The bridges are available in two pre-configurations for distances up to 1km or 1.6km.
Interface Choices included
Each laser head is populated with three interface ports offering a high flexibility for the connections to the wired Ethernet:
- One RJ-45 Copper 100/1000 data interface
- One unpopulated SFP port for multimode or single-mode fibre connections
- One (1) RJ-45 Copper Management and PoE interface
Installation and Operation
The installing is a easy. LEDs and a strength meter alignments tool assist with the alignment of the laser beam. With Power over Ethernet, the installation is further simplified without the need for costly electrical wiring runs or new outlets.
These units feature a special ‘floating’ auto-tracking system which fine-tunes the focus of the beams, thus compensating for building movements during the day due to changes in temperature. And since there are so many beams, the signal cannot be interrupted by.
The laser heads have a compact design with a robust outdoor enclosure for environments between -30°C to 60°C. Heat shields are optionally available for hotter climates. An integrated heater and lens defroster support low-temperature climates. All LaserLink II products feature an eye safe operation with Class 1M laser ratings.
Management
The system offers a full in/out-of-band management system. You can use a standard Internet based web browser to access and monitor the connection. In addition the system features a SNMP l v1/2c (optional v3), RMON management with alarm reporting via SNMP traps, on-board history log files, TELNET, and SYSLOG.
An integrated multiport Ethernet switch allows redundancy/failover and/or network traffic add/drop operation.
WiFi backup path for nearly 100% availability
The future proof LaserLink II series is available or upgradeable with RF-redundancy. Choose a model with a 5-GHz Wi-Fi-connection for all weather availability. The system then monitors data transmissions and availability in real time. It automatically switches to the best path: full speed laser or RF backup with 150Mbps half-duplex throughput. Combining the best of both wireless worlds (highly secure, ultra-fast laser throughput and integrated RF transmission) the system provides an availability of more than 99,99% with annual down time less than 5 minutes.
If you have chosen a model without Wi-Fi redundancy but the requirement comes up at a later point,
each laser head can be upgraded trouble-free with a wireless RF-bridge.
Advantages of Free Space Optics
For customers who currently lease copper access between buildings or who are considering costly fiber-optic cable, the Free Space Optics solutions offer significantly higher bandwidth with full-duplex speeds and a welcome end to recurring monthly fees. Free Space Optics do not require a license for operation, thus they can be installed very quickly, cost efficiently, and non-bureaucratic. Further on free space optic products are 100% immune to from radio frequency interference and spectrum saturation issues.
